This scene was inspired by a lovely week in October that I spent painting at the Bar 11 Ranch off highway 22 in southern Alberta. The foothills of the Rockies gradually rise in the background. It had snowed lightly a few days prior but I left out the fresh snow in the scene and added a bit of haze to the distant hills to create a feeling of midday warmth to the landscape.
