I have seen Sea Lions on many occasions. My favourite sightings however were on a trip I took to the Scott Islands off the northern tip of Vancouver Island. The Sea Lions were gathered on small rock islands in front of the cliffs of the larger islands, as I have depicted in this painting. The barking bull at the top of the rock continually steals the viewer’s eye away from the rest of the painting. The marks on its body are evidence that it has fought hard for its position at the top of the hierarchy.
