About Clement Kwan

 
Clement Kwan’s figurative paintings are exquisitely filled with light, colour, joy and movement. "I like my paintings to express happiness,” Kwan says. “ I use my artistic skills to create paintings that will give people joy and hope - my tool for helping to make the world a better place."
 
Born in south China, Kwan immigrated to Canada in 1979, now lives in Victoria B.C. Like most established artists, Kwan loves draw and paint since his young age. Although he had his basic art training at the time when he was in China, but most of his artistic knowledge and artistic achievements, is actually after his moved to Canada, here in Victoria, through more than 25 years of dedicated self- education, and more than 15 years of professionally fine art creating  that in business working with the commercial fine art galleries.
 
Kwan’s painting idea and subject matter all are from local here - the beautiful and wealthy multi-culture region of Vancouver Island. His painting style is basically from the classical tradition, he likes mix impressionism with realism in his painting. Most often painting from a tight photographic realism in the faces (or the focus interest  of the painting) to a bravura expressionism toward the margins. Among his inspirations, his mentioned the later impressionism of John Singer Sargent, Anders Zron, and the Virtuoso paintings of Joaquin Sorolia. Also, from the contemporary master painter Richard Schmid and from his childhood friend artist Mian Situ.
 
Kwan has been participating in many regional, national and international art shows in United States and Canada, and won numerous awards. He is a Senior Signature  Member (the highest status) of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America. Clement’s works can be found in public and private collections, art galleries throughout  Canada and the United Sates.
