Olé is another in my “Rubenesque” series of generously proportioned nude figures in an attitude to make you smile. This gal, with her tiny feet and generous thighs and bottom, throws her hands up and her head back in a joyful expression of fun and vigour. I’ve carved her from Carrara marble, a variety for the Petacchi quarry in the mountains above the famous Italian town. I’ve made the surfaces of this sculpture smooth to the touch, save the textured support base and the matte finish allows for the stone to successfully hold shadow to maximize the eye’s ability to fully enjoy the form.
