This reclining female nude is another in my "Rubenesque" series of voluptuous figurative sculptures. She is lying on her right side with her left leg cocked over her right and her upper body is supported on her right elbow. She casts her face skywards, eyes closed in a daydream. Of note are her generous buttocks, thighs and calves that taper to tiny, demure feet, her serene countenance and her relaxed right hand. Although she is relaxed, I have created a challenging pose which required a lot of intricate carving and sanding to create a smooth, very tactile surface. The matte finish allows the stone to hold shadows well, which is important in order to visually discern the subtle details.
