This seated female nude is another in my "Rubenesque" series of voluptuous figurative sculptures. She is sitting cross legged with her arms crossed, almost hugging herself. Her face is serene, her eyes closed and almost appears to be a Buddha. The composition has inspired the title. Of note is the subtle white stripe in the marble that encircles her head and appears as a ring on her right shoulder. Although she is relaxed, I have created a challenging pose which required a lot of intricate carving and sanding to create a smooth, very tactile surface. The matte finish allows the stone to hold shadows well, which is important in order to visually discern the subtle details.
