There are numerous species of Rock Fish found in the coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest. The Tiger Rockfish is one of my favorite since it adds a brilliant touch of colour to the often drab green world below the surface. Fascinating in that they can make sounds underwater to defend their territory, Rock Fish are sadly becoming over-fished in many parts of the coast. They are very slow growing with some species living to eighty years of age and not maturing to reproduce until they are fifteen which has meant long periods lapse to repopulate fished-out sites.
