The massive fires, that swept through Yellowstone National Park in 1988, created stark black vertical lines. Some years later when we were there in the winter time, all kinds of photographic opportunities for unusual black and white images presented themselves. Although I was usually photographing the vertical lines of the stark and barren tree trunks and the repetitions they caused, in this photograph the delicate tracery of the reeds brings an interesting contrast to the weight of the fallen tree trunks in the background.
