This femaile torso is carved from a variety of marble that was quarried on the west coast of Vancouver Island at Nootka Sound. The stone is characterized by its soft grey background, with striations of white and black. Although a stylized figure, there are elements of classic contrapposto posing in the torso. The matte finish of the marble gives the stone the ability to hold shadow, yet is wonderfully smooth to the touch.
