Her work has won many international awards, has appeared in International Artist, Southwest Art, Arabella and Artist magazines and is sought after by collectors all over North America and Europe.

Artist’s Statement

I’m often asked why painting has been my passion for so long. I haven’t found that to be an easy question to answer but here are a few thoughts.

I think I became a painter by way of being an observer – I have always noticed light and shadow, shapes, texture, composition and colour, and endeavouring to interpret my observations through painting is what has motivated me all my life. My intention is to be relatively faithful to the colour and light that nature so beautifully provides while allowing myself to experiment and play with the paint application. I want my brush and knife handling to be as interesting as the subject. The way the strokes and colour work together is where I want the life and energy of the work to reside. At least that is my goal! Accomplishing that goal is always difficult but also fascinating and deeply fulfilling. It keeps me painting almost daily!

Although I did a lot of drawing in my early teens, I was eighteen when I first tried painting. After two small oils, I did my first watercolour and I was hooked! I fell in love with watercolour and it was my medium for many years. I now work predominantly in oil which I thoroughly enjoy but if there were more hours in the day I would paint in oil, watercolour and gouache and probably explore sculpting, printmaking, collage…

I am Canadian, but at age twenty-three I moved to England where I lived for fourteen years. It was then that I fell in love with the pastoral landscape and villages of England and Europe which were the subject of my watercolours at that time. I still miss it! I have been back on the west coast of British Columbia for a long time now and although I am still attracted to street scenes, I really enjoy painting the boats, waves and marinas that are all around me.

I am very glad that people appreciate my work and choose to hang it in their homes; it is wonderful and humbling.
