About Kathryn Amisson

Kathryn Amisson was born in Manitoba. At the age of six she moved with her family to the west coast eventually settling on Vancouver Island where her coastal roots took hold.

Starting her professional art career at twenty-seven she has dedicated her working life to pursuing the continual evolution of her craft. A constant desire to move from her early overly representational imagery to a more energized abstract expression. With this in mind there are new approaches still finding their way on her canvas.

Wanting to loosen up her work in 2008 she introduced texture into her technique. Working in acrylic on canvas she applies drywall compound mixed with the acrylics sometimes along with an application of tissue paper. Incorporating these elements in a way to create movement, dimension and viewer interaction. Her pieces offer either a suggestion of seascapes or landscapes. Fond of a colourful palette her art brings joy and a powerful impact to a room.

“I love interpreting wide open spaces whether that is an expanse of a sandy beach, the deep blue waters of the ocean or a massive interesting sky. Give me the freedom to let loose with colour, palette knife and thickness of paint and I am in my zone.”

Kathryn’s work has been purchased by individuals and collectors worldwide and her efforts in aiding and contributing to her chosen group of charities is well acknowledged and recognized. Kathryn resides in Brentwood Bay near Victoria, British Columbia.
