About Jerett Humpherville

Jerett Humpherville was born and raised on Haida Gwaii, a uniquely remote and rugged archipelago off the northwest coast of Canada. He is of indigenous ancestry ,Cree/Métis . He grew up surrounded by a rich cultural history and the wild beauty of the West Coast—elements that would profoundly shape his identity as an artist.

From an early age, Jerett demonstrated an innate gift for drawing and painting, a talent he inherited through his father and his father’s family .His childhood was spent immersed in the landscapes, stories and culture of his community, fostering an enduring appreciation for the land and art inspired by it.

Jerett first learned to work with wood under the guidance of his uncle, accomplished artist ken Humpherville where he gained not only technical skill but also a deep respect for the materials he used. He learned how to thoughtfully select western red and yellow cedar, as well as alder, recognizing the unique grain and character within each tree. The process of hand-milling wood and transforming it into art became both a discipline and a calling.

His early experiences working with other indigenous artists helping on totem poles, creating canoes, masks, and paddles shaped his artistic foundation and strengthened his connection to Indigenous artistry.

Jerett’s talent gained recognition early. One of his first pieces was acquired by a prestigious gallery in Vancouver, British Columbia, and soon after was purchased by the Vancouver Aquarium. His artwork has since been collected internationally. Among his notable experiences are participating in a private show alongside his brother Jeremy Humpherville held at The Masters Gallery in Calgary, Alberta, and receiving an invitation to exhibit at the renowned Southwest Museum in Los Angeles, California.

Today, Jerett continues to create exceptional carvings and paintings from his home of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. His work remains a celebration of ancestral traditions, natural beauty, and the enduring connection between culture, land, and artistry. Through every piece, he honors where he comes from—and inspires others through the story of where he is going.
