"We've lost the very last male Northern White rhino. A very sad state! The name "White Rhino" is not because they were white. It's a distortion of the name "Wide Rhino" meaning their snout was broad, as opposed to the black Rhino that has a more pointed snout. I did this White Rhino for the Philadelphia Zoo many years ago. We need to protect these apex species. Not just the last one, but enough to sustain a viable gene pool. Only two survivors invite genetic defect and it's a long way back from there ..." - Mark Heine
