Mark Hobson (Prints)

Crystal Cove is the very scenic southern end of Mackenzie Beach near Tofino, B.C. With six resorts close by it is a very popular place to take a beach walk. It is a location I have painted plein air on a number of occasions but I finally decided to do this piece a little larger in the studio at over 5 feet across. A late afternoon March sky was the starting place for this painting. This glowing fog bank only lasted a few minutes but stuck in my memory strongly enough that a week later I could not help but get started on it. I made use of a recent downpour that had carved a deep curving gully in the beach as a way to help pull the viewer’s eye toward the glowing focal point.
