Black Oystercatchers are one of a small number of shorebirds that stay along Canada’s west coast year round. They are completely at home in the turbulent world at the edge of the surf and yet must keep a wary eye out for waves that might knock them off the rocks. I have used them as a focal point to portray the wealth of life that exists on the outer edge of the exposed North Pacific shorelines.
