In a compound open to the sky in Keechan, Rajasthan, India, we had seen grain strewn in an arc the night before. Just before dawn the next morning we climbed onto a flat roof and weren't waiting long, before the first Demoiselle Crane landed in the middle of the compound and was soon followed by more and more cranes. Their evocative calls increased in volume as they were dropping from the sky. The curving arcs of grain enticed the cranes to land along those lines forming rhythms, patterns and compositions perfect for photography.
