In late 2022, I was contacted by an American Art Consulting company that had been engaged by the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore to source marble sculpture for its renovations. After a lengthy collaboration, the Hotel commissioned me to carve 21 identical sculptures. They loved a design I had created, called “The Harp”, which is in a private collection in PA, USA, so I re-sculpted the composition in virtual space and had the marble sculptures milled using a CNC robot. We had one extra sculpture milled, and here it is. We saved this one for our collectors, as it has a wonderful red marking amongst the grey striations in the marble – a unique element not evident in any of the other 21 sculptures. The shape of this abstract reminds me of an ancient lyre harp, so this inspired the title. The swirling striations in the marble accent the thought of music floating through the air. When the sculpture is side lit, a dramatic shadow occurs in the sail-like portion of the composition. The white marble is secured to the square black granite base by a hidden stainless steel pin.
