Honey onyx is quarried in Utah, USA, near Salt Lake City. It was imported to Vancouver in the 70s and 80s as a popular fireplace facing, but contractors didn’t like the odd piece with a black stripe in it, so they would discard those pieces. I found them prefect for my angel fish sculptures! I’ve carved this sculpture to be thin, like a real fish and when backlit, the onyx stone glows.
