Jim Park Spotlight Show

I discovered Jim Park's work soon after moving to Canada. One of the first things I did was drive throughout British Columbia and Alberta, visiting art museums and commercial galleries. It was during those travels that I encountered Jim's paintings at Kimoto Gallery in Vancouver, just off Granville Street.

We took the initiative to contact Jim and asked if he would be interested in being represented by our gallery. From the very beginning, I was drawn to the raw emotional quality of his paintings and the extraordinary way he captures light. Up close, I often find myself wondering why certain brushstrokes are placed where they are. Yet, when viewed from a distance, everything comes together beautifully—the compositions become striking, and the light is simply brilliant.

At the time, however, there was one challenge. Jim was primarily creating very large-scale works. He has long been drawn to expansive canvases, which allow him to convey the profound sense of solitude found in moments such as watching waves crash onto a deserted beach. As a result, we were only able to receive a limited number of paintings that would fit comfortably within our gallery space.

Although we still have only a small selection, we are delighted to present a new portfolio of Jim's recent works in more intimate formats. I hope you will have the opportunity to visit our gallery and experience these remarkable new paintings in person.
